Our Laboratory in Finland serves as the EPSE Lab Hub – an innovation and development center dedicated to advancing the EPSE™ Method. As a core hub of expertise, our laboratory plays a key role in research, process development, and training related to sustainable industrial wastewater treatment and removal of soluble heavy metals from waste streams.

Our focus areas include:

  • Research and development of the EPSE™ Method and related technologies
  • Process optimization and analytical validation
  • Training and technical support for partner laboratories
  • Collaboration with universities, research institutes, and industrial clients

The EPSE Lab Hub is where innovation meets practical impact – turning scientific insight into real-world environmental solutions.

EPSE Laboratory Scale Proof of Concept (Lab PoC)

Every wastewater is unique. In Laboratory Proof of Concept test work (Lab PoC) our team of specialists analyze water samples from the customers and case-specifically optimize the EPSE™ Method. With the analysis and initial testing we confirm the suitability of EPSE™ Method for the case, and we are a step closer to delivering the comprehensive solution for our customer.

1. Sample analysis & treatment goals

EPSE Lab PoC begins with the analysis of the sample provided by the customer and initial testing of the EPSE treatment. The analysis produces a comprehensive picture of what dissolved metals the customer’s wastewater contains. For a successful treatment outcome, it is important for us to know the customer’s objectives so we can adjust the treatment parameters to best achieve them.

2. Optimizing the treatment recipe

Once we have achieved a successful result, we begin optimization, where we strive to produce the best possible “treatment recipe” for the wastewater in question. On a case-by-case basis, we can test different treatment chemicals, study the impact of treatment stages on the end result, or test different treatments. We also produce information for the pilot phase, which facilitates the transition from laboratory scale to larger scale.

3. Client-specific conclusions & next steps

The Lab PoC is reported comprehensively to the customer, and we are happy to go through the report together. We also compile a proposal for the next steps based on the information we have received from the customer so far. We always operate confidentially and, if necessary, sign NDA agreements with the customer and other parties involved in the case.

Lab Hub capacity

At the EPSE Lab Hub, we continuously develop and refine the EPSE™ Method to meet the evolving needs of industry and environmental regulations. Our team of experts conduct applied research, pilot testing, and method optimization to ensure reliable and efficient performance across diverse applications. The degree of self-sufficiency is high: high-quality equipment and standardized work routines ensure efficient and prompt handling of samples. Our laboratory follows all health and safety procedures proposed by the internal and external risk analysis.

Beyond our own innovation work, the EPSE Lab Hub supports and trains our partner laboratories around the world in applying the EPSE™ Method. Through hands-on collaboration, method validation, and technology transfer, we help partners achieve the same high standards of safety, quality, and environmental responsibility.

Our laboratory is equipped with an ICP-OES -analyzer and a UV-VIS Spectrophotometer, thus EPSE can produce in-house metal analysis for water samples. Along with the ICP analyzer, EPSE Lab has its own leaching test equipment. For several years now, EPSE Laboratory has had the proficiency to conduct solubility tests (SYKEre 40/2020) and the laboratory Team has grown from one scientist to four full-time specialists led by our laboratory manager.
